DHL’s £230 Million E-Commerce Hub in Coventry to Create 600 Jobs

Logistics leader DHL has unveiled a £230 million state-of-the-art e-commerce hub near Coventry Airport, a move set to create up to 600 local jobs and significantly enhance parcel handling capabilities in the region. The 25,000 m² facility, inaugurated today by Business Minister Justin Madders, is designed to process up to one million parcels daily, expediting delivery times for consumers across Coventry and the broader West Midlands.

During the opening ceremony, Minister Madders toured the advanced facility and engaged with DHL’s senior leadership, including CEO of DHL eCommerce, Pablo Ciano. Discussions centered on the hub’s innovative technologies and its anticipated positive impact on both the local community and the wider regional economy.

This investment aligns with projections positioning the UK at the forefront of European e-commerce, with online retail sales expected to reach £176 billion by 2029. The new hub is a strategic component of DHL eCommerce’s broader €560 million investment plan in the UK, announced in 2022, aimed at increasing capacity and setting a new benchmark in parcel automation.

The facility also underscores DHL’s commitment to sustainability, featuring electric vehicle charging points, 7,000 m² of solar panels, and energy-efficient LED lighting to minimize environmental impact.

Minister Madders remarked, “The UK is open for business, and DHL’s investment is the latest vote of confidence in the country that will deliver economic growth and raise living standards, showing that our ‘Plan for Change’ is working.”

This development is part of a series of significant investments in the UK’s logistics and e-commerce sectors, reflecting growing confidence in the nation’s economic stability and growth prospects.
